Big split in TMC parliamentary party, 20 MPs claimed to form a separate faction, gave letter to the Speaker

June 8, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After the split in the TMC legislative party after the West Bengal Assembly elections, now the split in the parliamentary party is almost certain. Rebel MPs of Trinamool Congress held a meeting at the house of BJP General Secretary Bhupendra Yadav. West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari was also present in this meeting. After the meeting at Bhupendra Yadav’s house, senior Trinamool Congress MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar gave a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. This letter has signatures of 20 TMC MPs. Kakoli Ghosh Dasditar claimed to form a separate faction in the Lok Sabha.

On one hand, Mamata Banerjee was attending the meeting of India Alliance. On the other hand, rebel MPs sent a letter to the Speaker to form a separate group. He has ended all relations with Trinamool Parliamentary Party. The letter was submitted on Monday at exactly 12:53 pm.

Trinamool has a total of 28 MPs in the Lok Sabha. Kakoli said that 20 of them have signed. However, it is not yet clear who has signed what. According to sources, the list includes Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Prasun Banerjee, Partha Bhowmik, Sharmila Sarkar, Asit Mal, Jagdish Basunia, Kalipada Soren, Arup Chakraborty, Rachna Banerjee, Dev.

Claim to form separate faction in Lok Sabha

In the letter given by Kakoli Ghosh, it is written that he is not joining BJP. However, he will join NDA. That is, they want to be a part of the NDA alliance as a separate group of Trinamool. That is, if this letter is accepted, the Trinamool Parliamentary Party will break. However, Om Birla is not present in the Lok Sabha on Monday, he has gone to attend a program in another state. Therefore, the letter has been deposited in his office.

Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar submitted the letter as Chief Whip of Trinamool Congress today. Mamta Banerjee had removed him from that post a few days ago. Kalyan Banerjee was appointed to that post, but Kakoli argues that the matter of removing him from that post is not yet in the records of the Lok Sabha, because the Lok Sabha session has not taken place in the meantime. On that argument Kakoli claimed to be the Chief Whip and submitted the letter.

Rebellion in TMC after election defeat

Let us tell you that after the assembly elections, Trinamool Congress has split in the legislative party. Under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee, 58 MLAs have written a letter to the Assembly Speaker claiming to form a separate faction and the Assembly Speaker has also approved it. Now after the split of MLAs, the split of TMC MPs is almost certain.
