
The special NIA court located at Patiala House Court in Delhi granted bail to human rights activist Khurram Parvez and Kashmiri journalist Irfan Mehraj in the 2020 UAPA case. Patiala House Court Principal and Sessions Judge Pitambar Dutt ordered bail for Khurram Parvez and Irfan Mehraj.
With this the court has cleared the way for the release of Khurram Parvez. Khurram was recently given another sentence by the Delhi High Court. UAPA Was granted bail in the case. Let us tell you that Mehraj and Parvez were accused in the alleged NGO terror funding case registered by the NIA in October 2020.
These allegations have been leveled against Parvez-Mehraj
Mehraj was a researcher at JKCCS till March 2022. Parvez was the coordinator of the rights group and the NIA has accused him of providing “material support” to protesters in Kashmir during the 2016 agitation.
NIA has said that in the 2020 case, the involvement of some NGOs, trusts and societies of the valley in funding terror related activities is being investigated.
Allegations of connection with terrorist organizations
The NIA claimed that some NGOs, both registered and unregistered, have been seen collecting funds in the country and abroad under the guise of charity and various welfare activities like public health, education etc., but some of these organizations have developed links with banned terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) etc.
