LPL 2026: Took a wicket on the first ball in debut, then Shaheen Afridi was thrashed, hit 7 sixes and fours.

July 18, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Pakistan’s experienced fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is not having a very good time. From T20 World Cup to Test cricket, his performance has been continuously lacking. There has also been a significant decline in his bowling speed, due to which he is under question. Recently he was also dropped from Pakistan’s Test team. Now Shaheen Afridi also failed in his debut match of Lanka Premier League, where he was badly beaten.

Dambulla Sixers and Kandy Royals clashed in the second match of the new season of Lanka Premier League which started from 17th July. Shaheen Afridi, who is participating in this league for the first time, is playing for Kandy. But his debut match did not go well. In this match played in Colombo, left arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi made a strong start but after that he was badly beaten.

Shaheen Afridi was put to bowl in the second over of the innings. Shaheen, who had taken wicket in the very first ball or in the very first over many times in his international career, did the same feat again. This Pakistani pacer dismissed Dambulla captain Dinesh Chandimal on his very first ball. From this it seemed that Shaheen Afridi was going to show the same side of him which made him recognized all over the world. But the story immediately took a different turn.

After this, Afridi was beaten severely. His Pakistani teammate Sahibzada Farhan also hit fours and Reeza Hendricks also hit boundaries. Then in the 17th over, Gulbadin Naib hit two consecutive sixes against Shaheen. The effect of this was that Afridi could not complete his spell because the captain did not give him the fourth over. Afridi definitely took 1 wicket in his 3 over spell but he also gave away 41 runs at a very poor economy rate of 3.66. During this, Afridi was hit 3 sixes and 4 fours.
