The way veteran actor Arun Govil has brought alive the character of Lord Shri Ram on screen, hardly anyone can do it. Even today, when we talk about Ram ji, the image of Arun Govil definitely comes before people. Today, the first resolution event of Ramayana movie has been organized in Delhi, in which the veteran actor told how he was rejected for the role of Shri Ram. Instead, he was offered other roles, but he refused. After this, how did he finally get a chance to play the character of Ram ji in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana.
When Kumar Vishwas called Arun Govil on the stage while addressing him, he said that sometimes Lord Ram himself chooses someone for his work. Regarding this matter, actor Arun Govil told how even after being rejected, he got the role of Shri Ram.
Told the glory of Ram’s name
When actor Arun Govil came on stage, he said, “First of all, you all should say ‘Jai Shri Ram’, Ram is the smallest word…but the way it is connected with our life, no matter at what point of life we are in, whatever emotion we are expressing, the word Ram definitely comes in it, Hi Ram also comes, Hey Ram also comes. Ram Ram also comes. Ram duhai also comes, everything is Ram meya.
I myself said that I want to play the role of Ram.
Arun Govil while talking further said, “Just now our Namit ji said one thing and Kumar Vishwas ji said one thing, he said that Ram ji himself chooses someone to get his work done… I would like to tell you a small incident of this, when I was working with Ramanand ji. I had done his serial ‘Vikram Aur Betaal’, then I came to know that he was going to make ‘Ramayana’. A feeling came in my mind. That I should play the character of Shri Ram and without thinking I approached him and I told him that I want to play the character of Shri Ram.”
Selection happened after rejection
Arun Govil told, “He took my audition and rejected me outright. A few months passed.. He told me. ‘You can do the role of Bharat or the role of Laxman. I said no, I did not want to do the role, I had to play the character of Shri Ram in this ‘Ramayana’. If you think that I am not worthy then only Ram knows,”
Further narrating the story, the actor said, “You won’t believe, after three-four months, one day I got a call from him and he said a line in Punjabi, ‘Sadi selection committee decides ki tere varga Ram nahi milna’, then he (Kumar Vishwas) said right, Ramji selects me for his work. It is my good fortune that he chose me. That Ramayana was released in 1987 and till date it is Ram-Ram and Ram.”
Playing the role of Dasharatha in ‘Ramayana’
Arun Govil will be seen playing the role of King Dashrath in the film ‘Ramayana’ directed by Nitesh Tiwari. This film has many big actors like Sunny Deol, Kajal Aggarwal, South actor Yash, Ravi Dubey, Sai Pallavi, Lara Dutta, Sheeba Chaddha, Kunal Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi, Indira Krishnan. The film is planned to be released around Diwali.
