Before the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, a section of the Congress wanted an alliance with superstar Vijay’s TVK, despite this the DMK was not ready to include the Congress in power. But in view of the old alliance, the Congress high command decided to go with DMK. DMK alliance lost in the elections. When Vijay was close to power, Congress with only 5 MLAs supported Vijay and secured two ministerial posts and a Rajya Sabha seat.
In such a situation, the angry DMK accused the Congress of betrayal and left the India Block. Congress sees a future in TVK, hence in Monday’s meeting it was going to propose to its allies to make TVK a part of the India Block. But even before that, many allies including the Left said that DMK will have to be brought back into the India block. DMK kept raising the flag of delimitation, secularism and anti-BJP. Also, just as there are reports of rift among TMC MPs, in such a situation DMK MPs matter a lot.
Called DMK as part of India Block
Even if they get angry and start abstaining from voting, the government will easily pass arbitrary bills. Under this pressure, Congress did not propose to include TVK in the India Bloc in the meeting and changed its stand and called DMK a part of the India Bloc in the national interest. Also talked about removing their resentment. There was also talk of including TVK in India Block in future.
TVK will be a part of India Block in future
Rajya Sabha MP and Congress General Secretary Nasir Hussain said that after the elections, some new adjustments have been made in the alliance, due to which the DMK is angry. But he is an integral part of India Block, we will remove his resentment. TVK is not yet a part of the India Bloc, hence it was not invited to the meeting. When they become a part in the future, they will be invited.
Congress relaxed its attitude after India Block meeting
Actually, after the India Block meeting, this is Congress’ lax attitude towards DMK, because amid the fear of a major split in TMC, it is also understanding the arithmetic of Parliament till 2029. After all, TVK is not going to have any MP in the Lok Sabha till 2029. In such a situation, the Congress high command can cite the relations of Mamata, Left and Congress in Tamil Nadu with DMK, that they should keep the politics of the state separate and that of the Centre.
DMK fears loss in state politics
But after losing power, he cannot tolerate Congress leaving DMK and joining TVK. Also she does not want to be a part of that alliance. Where there is TVK. DMK is afraid of loss in state politics due to this step. That is why he left the India Block in a hurry. Also demanded separate seats from India Block to sit in Parliament. Now, solving this dilemma may prove to be a big headache for the Congress high command.
