Former Canning East MLA and TMC heavyweight leader Shaukat Mollah was arrested by NIA from Kamalgachhi in Sonarpur. Before the elections, one person was killed in a bomb blast in South Bamuniya village of Chalatberia in Bhangarh assembly constituency. NIA had taken over the investigation of that incident. Shaukat Mollah has been arrested in the same case.
The police was searching for Shaukat in this case. NIA Shaukat Mollah was named as one of the main suspects and conspirators of the blast, but despite searches at a total of eight places in Bhangarh and Canning throughout the day on Thursday, no trace of him was found.
Mollah was planning to escape to Bangladesh
News was received in the night that Shaukat Mollah was planning to flee to Bangladesh. At that time the NIA team searched Chunokhali area of Basanti, but no news of Shaukat was found.
NIA team conducted combing search in Zakaria Sundarban Madrasa area. Every house in the entire village was searched. The entire village was surrounded so that he could not cross the border in any way. Finally success was achieved on Friday.
Meanwhile, NIA has earlier arrested a total of three people in this case. Earlier, ambulance driver Suraj Mollah and Trinamool leader Ohidul Mollah were arrested. A lot of information was obtained by interrogating him. Later the NIA also arrested a Scorpio driver named Sayanur Mollah.
Problems increased for former MLA Amit Majumdar
On the other hand, TMC leader Asit Majumdar was arrested for protesting. After that, extortion charges were added to the case. This time, a case of attempt to rape was added. Former MLA from Chunchura, Hooghly, was produced in Chunchura court on Friday, the judge has ordered to send him to jail for another 14 days.
According to police and court sources, a case was registered against the former Trinamool MLA on charges of extortion. Although he got bail in that case, his name has been added to a new case. Asit is also reportedly one of the accused in an attempt to rape case in 2023.
It has been learned that a girl from Ward No. 8 of Chunchura Municipality has filed a case against Asit. In view of the allegations of molestation and attempted rape, the judge has ordered to send him to jail for another 14 days.
