Bengal had to suffer the loss of appeasement politics, said Shubhendu Adhikari in Sanatan Chetna

June 6, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Speaking at the ‘Sanatan Chetna and Ram Rajya Jagran’ program in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari stressed the need to protect and promote Sanatan Dharma. He said that the people of Bengal are lucky that they can practice their religion and culture freely. Referring to the situation of Hindus in neighboring Bangladesh, the official said, “Because we are in Bengal, India, we have the freedom to practice our religion, follow our culture and follow the path of our faith.”

Talking about the main topic of the programme, he said that Bengal has suffered the loss of appeasement politics for years. He alleged that illegal infiltration has changed the population balance of the state. The officer also claimed that earlier there were often disruptions in Hindu festivals. He said that the newly formed ‘double-engine’ government will give more support to religious and cultural traditions based on eternal values. He said, “The environment is changing and it will change even more in the coming days.”

How did Bengal come into existence?

Subhendu Adhikari in his address to the youth has said, “How did Bengal come into existence? Our young generation, our future leaders, especially the students, should know how Bengal came to be. We got independence at midnight on 15 August 1947. Before that there was a long struggle. Muslim League President Muhammad Ali Jinnah had raised the demand of merging the whole of Bengal, which was then East Pakistan, with Pakistan. He had said that Kolkata would have to support me and I Not satisfied with Dhaka…”

Shubhendu Adhikari further said, “In 2019, the Prime Minister of India brought the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) for Hindu refugees. This challenged the security of our country. 600 km of land on the border should have been handed over to BSF, but the previous government was influenced by its vote bank politics and had left the entire Bangladesh border open. Today, illegal infiltrators have entered Bengal.”

To keep the country safe, we have to keep Bengal also safe.

Shubhendu Adhikari further said, “To keep the country safe, we also have to keep Bengal safe. You have entrusted me with the responsibility of eliminating all anti-social and anti-national activities in Bengal and I will complete it effectively. Traders had started leaving Bengal. Please do not go, come back… Bengal and Kolkata are not only the cultural capital of the country but also the spiritual capital. In the coming times, the BJP government under the leadership of PM Modi will work to rejuvenate all the centers of faith.”
