what is the allegation
Before this action of the administration, a notice was pasted in which it was alleged that the office was constructed without permission. The district administration claimed that this office was built illegally without a Manjari building plan. On the basis of this allegation, notice was sent to Abhishek Banerjee for hearing twice, but no one came to the scheduled hearing, hence further action was taken.
tight security at the spot
Administrative officials along with heavy police force, central force, fire brigade, BDO and BLRO reached the spot since Saturday morning. During this time the entire area was surrounded with guard rail and security was tightened. Three bulldozers were called to demolish the shed and structure of the building in phases. It has also been revealed that the office was locked ever since the results of the assembly elections were declared.
Notice issued for 17 properties
The development comes after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) issued notices to 17 properties registered in the names of Abhishek Banerjee, his family members and his company ‘Leaps and Bounds’. Banerjee’s residence ‘Santiniketan’ on Harish Mukherjee Road is also included among the properties for which notices have been issued. The issue came to light after the BJP released a list of 43 properties linked to the Diamond Harbor MP, many of which were reportedly jointly owned by his associates.
action after change of power
At present, Abhishek Banerjee’s MP office and Trinamool Congress have not issued any official statement on this action. Since the change of power in Bengal, many leaders of the Mamata Banerjee-led party have had to face action in similar property-related cases. Earlier this month, a cafe belonging to the son of TMC leader Saukat Molla was demolished in South 24 Parganas district for allegedly being built on encroached land.
