Nag Panchami 2026: In Sanatan Dharma, the festival of Nag Panchami is considered very special. This festival has been dedicated to the snake god. Worship of snake god on the day of Nag Panchami has been prescribed in the scriptures. The snake deity lives around the neck of Lord Shiva and is considered an ornament of Mahadev, hence on the day of Nag Panchami, snakes are worshiped with rituals and they are prayed for the happiness and prosperity of the family. According to Drik Panchang, this year the Panchami Tithi of Shukla Paksha of Sawan month is starting on August 19 at 04:52 pm. This date will remain till 05 pm on 17th August.

In such a situation, according to the belief of Udayatithi, this year the holy festival of Nag Panchami will be celebrated on 17th August. In Sanatan Dharma, every festival is celebrated with different customs. The day of Nag Panchami is not limited to just worshiping the snake god, rather some special traditions related to the festival are followed on this day. One of these traditions is not to cook roti on the pan on this day. This tradition is mainly related to regional beliefs, so let us know why Tawa is not offered on Nag Panchami? Why is it prohibited to make roti on the pan on this day?

Why is roti not made on the pan on the day of Nag Panchami?

According to folk beliefs, the day of Nag Panchami is considered to express respect towards the creatures living within the earth. Tawa is not offered on this day. On this day, reverence for nature and the snake god is expressed by not using high flame of the pan. This is the reason why the tradition of not making roti on the pan on the day of Nag Panchami has been going on for centuries in many parts of the country.

Not putting a pan on the stove on the day of Nag Panchami is not a mandatory religious rule which needs to be followed. This is a matter related to faith and local tradition. This tradition is followed according to the beliefs of the family and the region.

This food is prepared on Nag Panchami

In areas and homes where people follow this tradition, on the day of Nag Panchami, instead of pan roti, puri, kheer, curd-rice, kachori, boiled dishes or satvik food are prepared. At many places, food is also prepared in earthen pots on this day. At many places, people prepare rotis a day before Nag Panchami. On this day, food traditions are different in different states.
