BAN vs AUS ODI: Got a chance in the team after 4 years, hit 10 fours and sixes as soon as he returned, defeated Australia badly

June 9, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After facing defeat in the ODI series against Pakistan, the second phase of the Australian team’s Asia tour has started, where it is facing Bangladesh. The ODI series between the two teams started from June 9 in Mirpur, where in the first match, a batsman from host Bangladesh made a strong comeback and took charge of his team. Batting first, Mosaddek Hossain scored a quick 86 runs for the team in trouble, on the basis of which Bangladesh scored a strong score of 284 runs.

Bangladesh batted first in the first match of the series on Tuesday at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Once again opener Tanjeed Hasan made an explosive start for the team and played an inning of 54 runs in 44 balls. Nazmul Hossain Shanto also contributed with a fighting inning of 67 runs. But despite this, by the 26th over the team had lost 4 wickets, while the score was only 140 runs. It was at such a time that Mosaddek Hossain’s bat came into action.

Hossain, who was returning to international cricket after almost 4 years, first controlled the innings and then in the last overs, taking notice of the Australian bowlers, scored runs rapidly. This right-handed batsman finally returned to the pavilion after scoring unbeaten 86 runs in just 70 balls, which included 7 fours and 3 sixes i.e. 10 boundaries. It was only on the strength of his innings that the Bangladeshi team was able to cross 280 runs, otherwise even 250 runs were looking difficult for them.

This innings was very special for 30 year old Mosaddek Hossain because it has given a new ray of hope to his international career. He was out of Bangladesh team for the last four years. He played his last matches in all three formats only in 2022. However, his performance was not very effective for the Bangladeshi team, due to which he was dropped. Before this match, Mosaddek had played 43 ODI matches for Bangladesh, in which he could score only 634 runs at a meager average of 25. Till now he had scored only 3 half-centuries in his career.
