Earthquake tremors have been felt in many districts of Assam. The intensity of this earthquake, which occurred around 9:10 pm, was 4.2 on the Richter scale. Mild tremors were felt in many areas, due to which people came out of their homes. At present there is no information about any damage. Earlier, earthquake tremors were also felt in the state late on Sunday night. During this period, strong earthquake tremors were felt in Assam, Meghalaya and other parts of the North-East. An earthquake of estimated magnitude 5.7 occurred near Bhutan. The epicenter of the earthquake was about 252 km away from parts of Assam. Due to this, tremors were felt in many areas of the North-East.
Small and big earthquakes occur from time to time in North-East India. The reason for this is the geographical and geological condition of this area. Scientists say that North-East India is near the confluence of active tectonic plates of the earth, where geological movements keep happening.
Indian plate is colliding with Eurasian plate
Actually, the Indian Plate is moving towards the north and colliding with the Eurasian Plate. Due to this collision that continued for millions of years, the Himalayan mountain range was formed. This process continues even today. The tension between the plates is suddenly released from time to time, causing earthquakes.
Several fault lines in and around the state
The situation in Assam is also sensitive in this respect. There are several active fault lines in and around the state. These are cracks where rocks slide relative to each other. When pressure increases in these areas, energy is released. The earth trembles due to this. The situation is similar in Manipur, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
