
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke over phone to the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. They discussed the changing security situation in West Asia and stressed on de-escalation and diplomacy to restore peace in the region as soon as possible. According to a statement issued from the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in West Asia and reiterated India’s strong condemnation of the attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kuwait.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi today spoke over phone with the Amir of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The two leaders exchanged views on the changing security situation in West Asia. The Prime Minister reiterated his call for de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy for early restoration of peace and stability,” the PM Office statement said.

PM Modi thanked the Amir for his personal attention to the well-being and safety of the large Indian community living in Kuwait. This call came a few days after the death of an Indian citizen in the Iranian attack on Kuwait International Airport on June 3. This attack took place during the increasing tension between Israel and Iran. Earlier on March 30, an Indian citizen was killed in Iranian attacks on electricity and water desalination plants in Kuwait.
