
The US Navy attacked a Palau-flagged tanker off the coast of Oman on Monday, causing it to catch fire. However, all 24 Indian crew members on board were rescued with the help of Omani authorities. Officials associated with the case said that this ship named MT Marivex was blacklisted by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the financial intelligence and enforcement agency of the US Treasury Department, and sanctions were imposed on it.
OFAC takes action against vessels that violate US sanctions imposed on the sale of Iranian and Russian oil. The ship caught fire after a US Navy attack off the coast of Oman.
Trying to escape the American blockade
Officials said that MT Marivex is not an Indian-owned vessel and in the last few days it had made four attempts to escape the US blockade of Iranian ports. He said that the ship had returned after warnings from the US Navy on three occasions. One of the officials quoted above said, all 24 crew members are safe. He is an Indian citizen. He was rescued with the help of Omani authorities.
America told the reason for the attack
Officials said the ship had made another attempt to bypass the blockade using Oman’s territorial waters and had switched off its signaling equipment to avoid detection. He said that this method makes it clear that his intentions were not clear. He told that when the ship was decommissioned, it was empty. The Indian Embassy in Oman thanked the local authorities for rescuing the Indian crew members aboard the ship.
