Iran threatened retaliation against Ukraine on Sunday. Iran says that an Iranian commercial ship was attacked in the Caspian Sea, in which a sailor was killed. Foreign Minister Saeed Abbas Araghchi warned that this incident cannot go unanswered and accused President Zelensky of acting at the behest of Israel.
In a post on the social site Iranian Attacked a commercial ship, in which a sailor was killed, and called it a flagrant violation of the UN Charter. Araghchi wrote, “The UN Charter was openly violated at the behest of Israel in order to drag Europe into its fight.”
He further said that during separate calls with EU foreign policy chief Kaza Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, he had made it clear that “what the freeloaders did in Kiev cannot go unanswered.”
Ukraine condemns attack on Iranian commercial ship
The latest comments came a day after Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea, saying the blast killed one sailor and injured another.

Tehran described the incident as an attack, called on Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires to lodge a formal protest and accused Kiev of trying to escalate the fighting beyond Ukraine.
Iran called Ukrainian attack a criminal attack
According to Iran’s government news agency IRNA, the Foreign Ministry described the alleged attack as hostile and criminal and said that Iran will protect its national interests and security. The diplomatic spat comes against the backdrop of Iran’s military ties with Russia, which has relied heavily on the Iranian-designed Shahed drone during its attack on Ukraine.
In return, Kiev has provided its drone interception expertise to Middle East countries that have faced attacks from Iranian weapons. This condemnation of Iran comes with new allegations from Zelensky, who claimed that Russia is sharing satellite intelligence with Iran to help it plan attacks in the Middle East.
New front opened from Caspian Sea
The Ukrainian President said that Kiev had attacked a Russian warship and ships transporting military cargo belonging to Iran in the Caspian Sea. He also claimed that Ukraine had documented Russian satellite surveillance of military targets in Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait, and alleged that Iran later used these images to assess and prepare for attacks in the region.
The latest allegations represent a sharp increase in tensions between Tehran and Kiev, opening a new diplomatic front in a conflict already fueled by Iran’s military support of Russia and Ukraine’s efforts to block Moscow’s supply chains.
