The Hundred 2026: 12 fours and sixes… Birmingham battered by Jos Buttler’s blast, Super Giants reach the top

July 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Manchester Super Giants vs Birmingham Phoenix: In the 7th match of The Hundred 2026, Manchester Super Giants continued their excellent performance and defeated Birmingham Phoenix by 87 runs. In this match played at the Old Trafford Ground, the host Manchester team looked completely dominant. With this resounding victory, Manchester Super Giants have registered their second consecutive win and strengthened their place at the top of the points table. The hero of this victory was veteran wicketkeeper batsman Jos Buttler.

Jos Buttler’s stormy innings

In this match, Birmingham Phoenix won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved wrong for them. England’s legendary batsman Jos Buttler, while raining fours and sixes on the field, played a blazing innings of 90 runs in just 50 balls, which is the second highest individual score in the history of The Hundred on this ground. His innings included 7 fours and 5 sixes, but he remained 10 runs away from his century.

Even though Jos Buttler missed a century, the aggressive batting of Henry Klaasen and Tom Moores took the team to a big score. Tom Moores scored unbeaten 39 runs in just 17 balls in the last overs, which included 5 sixes. On the basis of this, Manchester Super Giants scored a big score of 187 runs after losing 7 wickets in 100 balls.

Phoenix team scattered like cards

The Birmingham Phoenix team, which came to chase the big target of 188 runs, looked under pressure and the entire team collapsed for 100 runs in just 97 balls. Joe Clark and Will Smeed tried to make a steady start, but no one could stand against the fast and spin bowlers of Manchester. For Manchester, Josh Tangney took the first two wickets with his stormy pace. After this, Sonny Baker, Gus Atkinson, Noor Ahmed and Liam Dawson bowled brilliantly and did not give any Phoenix batsman a chance to survive. Captain Donovan Ferreira scored 23 runs for Phoenix, but it was not enough to avoid defeat.
