Germany: ‘Berlin Pride’ attack suspect killed in police encounter, van rammed into crowd

The suspect in the deadly attack on ‘Berlin Pride’ was shot dead in a shootout with police on the outskirts of the city on Sunday. One person was killed and 29 people were injured in the attack by the accused. About 24 hours after the Berlin attack, the police found Abdul Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese origin. It is being told that the suspect had earlier tried to join the terrorist organization ‘Islamic State’ (IS).

In fact, one person was killed and several others were injured in a case of being hit by a van and attacked with a sharp weapon on Saturday night near the Berlin Pride Parade venue in Germany. After which the authorities issued a notice to search for the wanted person and appealed to the people to be cautious of Abdul Ballut.

Suspect dies in police encounter

Officials said Abdul is a citizen of Germany and also has ties to Lebanon. He said that he is armed and can prove to be dangerous. However, within 24 hours, Abdul Ballut was killed in an encounter with the police. Earlier, Home Minister Alexander Dobritt said, whatever we are seeing here indicates that we are dealing with an Islamic terrorist attack. Dobrint put the total number of injured at 29.

The suspect was in the sights of security agencies

He said the suspect had previously been under the radar of authorities for his involvement in several crimes, although he did not provide details of those crimes. He said that apart from this, he was also under the radar of security agencies due to his links with fundamentalist and Islamic extremist groups in the German capital. Dobrint said the suspect had been convicted in Berlin in the past, although he did not specify what case he was convicted of.

Avoid things that create an atmosphere of fear

Meanwhile, after the deadly attack on Saturday, Chancellor Friedrich Merz asked the people of Germany to avoid things that create an atmosphere of mutual disunity and fear in the society. Earlier, the police had said that the condition of some of the injured was serious. The police appealed to the people on the social media platform

What is the whole matter?

According to the police, a white van entered Tiergarten Park at around 10 pm. This park is near the route through which the Pride March had passed some time ago. The van hit several people and later crashed into a tree. Police said a woman died. Berlin’s fire service said eight people were seriously injured.

According to the police, more than 2,200 policemen were deployed to protect the Pride Parade and other events of the LGBTQ+ community in Berlin since Saturday morning. Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner expressed deep sorrow over the incident and said, this is an attack on our free and liberal society.
