
This action has been taken after the incident of death of 21 people in the fire in Malviya Nagar of South Delhi. “The corporation has intensified strict action to demolish and seal properties violating building bye-laws in a coordinated manner in all areas of Delhi,” the MCD said in a statement. The corporation said that this action was taken on the instructions of Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
In the south zone, the civic body demolished three properties in Said-ul-Ajaib, Hauz Rani, Khirki Extension, Savitri Nagar, Khanpur and Gautam Nagar and sealed 18 properties. The civic body has taken 41 actions to demolish and seal properties in these areas since June 1.
158 notices since June 1st
The corporation said that as part of the campaign against unauthorized construction works, 94 properties have been demolished across the city since June 1 and 114 other properties have been sealed. This action is being taken a few days after the massive fire that broke out at Flourish Stay Bed-and-Breakfast in Hauz Rani. The incident has raised concerns over illegal commercial activities and violation of fire safety rules in the area. The MCD said in a statement that it has issued 158 notices since June 1 against properties violating building bye-laws or misusing the premises.
What did the CMO say?
The CMO said that the Delhi government is not limited to just taking strict action, but is also working rapidly on long-term solutions to this problem. He has directed officials to consider the possibility of creating a third-party insurance system for buildings, guest houses, nursing homes and other such places where there is high footfall.
