Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal has currently denied any talks with BJP regarding alliance, although he has not completely ruled out the possibility. Sukhbir Badal said that no talks are going on at present and these questions have no meaning right now. On the discussions about alliance between Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP, Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal has said that no talks have taken place regarding the alliance yet. He has said that the aim of Akali Dal right now is to strengthen itself.
Cloud This reply has come at a time when many BJP leaders including Union Home Minister Amit Shah are talking about contesting the elections alone on all 117 assembly seats.
When asked if doors were open to join hands with BJP, Badal replied, Our aim is to strengthen the Akali Dal, and we are working in that direction. Right now, there is no use in answering ifs and buts. On several occasions, BJP leaders have expressed their intention to contest next year’s elections alone.
What did Badal say on Giani Raghbir’s statement?
On the other hand, on the statement of Giani Raghbir in front of the SIT of Punjab Police, Sukhbir Badal said that he had been the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib. He was a head gland and such a person should not lie. They should not go against the dignity of Akal Takht Sahib. Giani Raghubir Singh has become a member of Aam Aadmi Party. Now, based on his statement, Aam Aadmi Party wants to file a complaint against me. If my words cause any harm to anyone then I accept my mistake and I have said the same thing at Akal Takht Sahib.
On Wednesday, BJP national spokesperson RP Singh said that BJP is preparing to contest alone on all 117 seats in 2027. During the BJP’s big rally in Moga in March, Shah had clearly said that the BJP would contest the Punjab Assembly elections on its own.
Politics regarding SAD-BJP alliance
Amid speculation about a possible re-formation of the SAD-BJP alliance, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said the coming together of the two parties shows a desperate attempt to regain political power after being repeatedly rejected by the people of Punjab. Mann had said, the SAD-BJP alliance was not being formed for the welfare of the people or for any common vision, but to revive the politics that had harmed Punjab through the drug menace, anti-farmer policies and divisive agenda.
Shiromani Akali Dal had separated from the National Democratic Alliance in September 2020 over three controversial agricultural laws, which were later repealed. In the 2022 assembly elections, BJP won two seats, while SAD had its worst ever electoral performance by winning only three seats.
