
When the first BJP government of West Bengal was formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, only two ministers including Shubhendu took oath. Since then, the cabinet expansion was awaited for three weeks. Now the biggest topic of discussion is that 10-12 BJP MLAs are likely to take oath as ministers at Raj Bhavan on Monday, June 1. There was a lot of criticism regarding this two-member government from everyone, from the general public to party workers and officials. Everyone was asking where are the other ministers? At present this wait is likely to end on Monday.
Many senior and new faces are expected to be included in the expanded cabinet. Prominent names include:

- Swapan Dasgupta
- Jagannath Chattopadhyay
- Shankar Ghosh
- indranil khan
- Sharad Mukhopadhyay

Which MLA can get what responsibility?
Among these, there is talk of Rash Behari MLA Swapan Dasgupta taking over the higher education department. Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh can be brought in to help him, or the education department can be divided into higher education and school education and handed over to two people. Falakata MLA Deepak Burman, who is considered one of the trusted faces of BJP. He can also get a big ministry. Chakdaha MLA Bakkim Ghosh can be assigned the Public Health Engineering department. He is a former BJP MLA, who left CPM and joined BJP in 2018. He also has administrative experience of leftist rule.
According to reports, Ghatal MLA Sheetal Kapat is a contender for the post of Agriculture Minister of the state. It is being said that Shubhendu wants Adhikari to oversee the implementation of central government schemes in the state. Birbhum District President Dhruv Saha may get a place in the cabinet. There is also speculation about BJP’s Cooch Behar District Vice President Jagannath Chattopadhyay becoming a minister. However, despite his organizational strength, he may be entrusted with the responsibility of the transport department.
The health department is likely to remain directly under Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari. In such a situation, the names of Indranil Khan and Sharad Mukhopadhyay are being discussed as possible candidates for Minister of State under the Ministry of Health and AYUSH.
Maniktala MLA Tapas Roy is also a strong contender for some important ministry. Although, according to reports, he is more interested in becoming the Mayor of Kolkata, yet he can be seen in the role of a minister for some time. Similarly, Rupanjali Ghosh and Papia Adhikari may also get a place in the cabinet. Behala MLA Shankar Sikdar’s name may also be included in the final list of ministers.
