Vaibhav Sooryavanshi: Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s outcry again in Harare, made a record with a half-century, again heart broken

July 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

‘Vaibhav Suryavanshi will make many records in international cricket.’ A few months ago, when 15-year-old Vaibhav’s bat was making a lot of noise in IPL 2026, the same discussion was going on among the cricket fans. However, Vaibhav’s international career did not start well, where he failed in 3 consecutive innings. But in the next 3 matches, Vaibhav proved those claims right. Vaibhav scored a half-century for the second time on the Zimbabwe tour and made a special record in his name. But a surprising catch took away the chance from Vaibhav to score a historic century.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s magic was once again seen in the last match of the series in Harare. This time the Indian opener opened his and his team’s account by hitting a four on the very first ball of the match. Even after this his attack continued. However, in this match, Zimbabwe’s bowlers did not give them as much freedom as in the first match, but still it proved difficult for them to stop Vaibhav.

Once again Vaibhav’s senior opening partner Abhishek Sharma was out early but it did not affect the young star. In the first match, Vaibhav had scored a half-century in just 18 balls, but this time his fifty came in 31 balls. Even though this half-century was a little slow as per Vaibhav’s style of playing, he also created a new record with it. He became the first batsman to score two half-centuries in international cricket before the age of 16. In this matter till now he was at par with Kushal Malla (1) of Nepal.

But Vaibhav was not ready to settle for just a half-century in this innings, rather he was continuing his attack and moving towards a century. Looking at the way his batting was going on, it seemed that he would also complete a century. But then Wesley Madhevere’s attempt to hit a six failed and Brad Evans, running from long off, took the catch with a surprising dive. Vaibhav played an inning of 81 runs in just 40 balls, which is his highest score in international cricket. He hit 8 fours and 4 sixes.
