Uttar Da Puttar Review: Anu Kapoor’s idea of physics and future is unique, what does the story of ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ say?

July 24, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Anu Kapoor’s film ‘Uttar Da Puttar’, released in theaters this week, has brought an interesting story. The story of superstition versus karma, the story of business in the name of astrology, the story of marketing of fear and selling medicine of fear as well as the story of bribery in government offices. But the interesting question is whether housing completely free from Vaastu defects can be achieved in a metropolis like Delhi? This question may seem a bit strange but the hallmark of the film shows that this story is also for every household. No matter how educated, modern or rich a person is, he is rarely safe from superstition and sorcery. In the film, Anu Kapoor is a physics professor who wants to buy a house free from Vaastu defects in Delhi.

These days, people in every city are victims of superstition, fear and departmental corruption. This movie is of comedy drama genre, directed by Ravindra Siwach. The film makes the same sarcasm on many fronts while making you laugh and tickle. And secretly leaves a big message too. At one place in the film, a line from English playwright Shakespeare has been used – The fault is not in our stars but ourselves. This line itself is the essence of the story of the film.

What is the story?

At the heart of the story of ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ is Sai Ram Tuteja, who lives in a rented house, whose role has been played very well by Anu Kapoor. Tuteja is a professor of Physics. In the class, very complex principles of physics are explained. Make students toppers. But in personal life he is a very superstitious person. He wears completely black attire on Saturdays and is a staunch advocate of following all the rules and regulations of Vaastu.

On the other hand, his wife Ginni (Rukhsar Rehman) does not like Tuteja’s tricks at all. As differences increase, Ginni leaves the house. The most unique twist in the story comes when Tuteja’s wife tells him that she is pregnant and she wishes to live with the child in her own house and not in a rented house. That means the house should be one’s own before the birth of the child.

After this, Sai Ram Tuteja’s campaign to buy a house which is completely free from Vaastu defects begins. His friend Mannu i.e. Brijendra Kala helps him in this campaign. But whether Tuteja is able to get a house free from Vaastu defects in a city like Delhi to live with his wife and child, watch this film to know if he gets it then what difficulties he has to go through.

actors acting

Although the lead actor in ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ is Anu Kapoor, apart from her, Rukhsar Rehman in the role of wife Ginni, Brijendra Kala in the role of friend, Pawan Malhotra in the role of Chaddha, Nitin Arora in the role of Chopra, Jiveshu Ahluwalia in the role of Sidhu etc. have also shown excellent performance. Anu Kapoor has once again emerged as a seasoned actor. The entire film is on his shoulders, he has been successful in entertaining the audience from beginning to end.

Anu Kapoor’s acting impresses in many scenes of the film. For example, when he is surrounded by difficulties from all sides, what he says in a scene while drinking alcohol at night is heart touching. His dialogue is – “O stars, why are you sitting on my fate, I cannot have enmity with you, when I extend the hand of friendship, you turn your face… What have I not done to match your pace… Still, whenever I felt like it, I took away everything as I felt like it, you are everything, I am nothing.”

songs, music and dialogue

The dialogues of the film are humorous but at some places they are very light and at times also cumbersome. While the audience laughs a lot at some places, they also feel bored. At such points, despite the good subject, the film becomes weak. For example, one of Ginni’s dialogues is – “Jantar Mantar witchcraft/ Only this would have changed something/ Then leave Physics and teach only this in the class/ Send everyone to IIT without teaching.” Or Tuteja’s dialogue – “I have always believed in God… Everything is yours, yours is my offering to you, what do you like about me… Now my actions will not be determined by any fear, my actions will be determined by my intelligence and conscience.”

Some songs like ‘Daav Pench Kar Khel Khal Do – Kismat Ko Tu Langdi Dal Do’ sound good and tickle.

weak side of the film

There is no doubt that Anu Kapoor’s ‘Uttar Da Puttar’ has brought a unique story. It has been written together by producer Sandeep Kapoor and director Ravinder Siwach. This film of the comedy genre advocates a superstition-free society and teaches humans to become karmists. But its weakness lies in its being too predictable. What is going to happen next in the film – everything becomes clear. Had the unpredictability remained, it would have been successful in attracting more and more audiences.
