Assembly elections are to be held in Punjab in the next few months. While the main opposition party Congress is embroiled in internal disputes before the elections, another party is going to enter the electoral fray in the state. Union Minister and President of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan on Sunday described Punjab as his maternal home and also announced that his party will prepare to contest elections on all the assembly seats.
Paswan, wearing a yellow turban, reached the religious city of Amritsar, where he paid obeisance at the Golden Temple along with his mother. After this he also went to Jallianwala Bagh. Referring to his connection with Punjab, the Union Minister said that Punjab is his maternal home. He also said that the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal in the state have been continuously losing the trust of the people.
‘This is not the right option for Punjab’
Along with this, Union Food Processing Industries Minister Paswan also went to Dera Sachkhand Ballan located in Jalandhar and met Dera chief Sant Niranjan Das. He also offered floral tributes at the statue of Lord Valmiki in Jalandhar. Earlier in Amritsar, Paswan targeted the AAP-led state government and said that this government cannot be the right choice for the future of Punjab, because this party looted Delhi while ruling for 10 years.
He also alleged that the people of Punjab gave the AAP party a chance to form the government, but it got involved in corruption. Paswan also targeted the state government regarding the drug problem. He said, “As far as I know, Punjabi people are completely fed up with AAP and they want change.”
Preparation to contest on all seats: Chirag
On the prospects of his party in Punjab elections, Minister Paswan said that he is trying to strengthen his party in Punjab. He said, “I don’t know whether we will have any alliance here in the future or how many seats we will be able to contest on. At present, we are preparing to contest on all the seats.”
Taking aim at the Sukhbir Singh Badal-led Shiromani Akali Dal, Chirag Paswan said that this party remained in power in Punjab for a long time and its style of governance and lack of development during its tenure is in front of everyone.
Taking a dig at the ongoing internal strife in the Congress, the Union Minister said, “The situation in the Congress which was earlier between (Navjot Singh) Sidhu ji and Captain Saheb (Amarinder Singh), now the same situation exists between (Charanjit Singh) Channi and the state president (Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding).” He says that all three parties are gradually losing the trust of the public.
We are expanding the party: Chirag Paswan
Talking about his connection with Punjab, Paswan said, “Punjab is my maternal home. My mother is a Sardarni. My father Ram Vilas Paswan always wanted the party to expand to other states and strengthen its presence there. As per his wish, we are expanding the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) in different states.”
Regarding the next UP elections, Paswan said, “We are preparing for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Elections are also to be held in Punjab and the party organization is working in this direction.”
