
Delhi High Court on Thursday expressed deep concern over the health of social activist Sonam Wangchuk. The court has instructed the Central Government that government doctors should conduct his medical examination daily and keep a constant eye on his health. During the hearing, it was told by the Central Government that Wangchuk’s health check-up is being done daily.
The center said that their medical reports and important health related information are shared. Sometimes government doctors and sometimes private doctors also examine them. On this, the High Court said that the life of every citizen is precious and it is the responsibility of the government to take every possible step for its safety.
… then government should take immediate steps: HC
The court also directed that government doctors should do daily clinical monitoring of Wangchuk and if any kind of treatment or medical intervention is required based on the doctors’ report, the government should immediately take necessary steps.
Terming life as precious, the court said in its order that the life of any citizen is extremely valuable and the government should make every possible effort to save it. The court also appreciated the stand of Solicitor General Tushar Mehta in this matter.
Wangchuk is on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi for the last 19 days. Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyay and Justice Tejas Karia said that life is precious and government doctors should regularly check Wangchuk’s health condition. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Center and Delhi government, said that every person’s life is precious and there is no objection in conducting regular medical examination of Wangchuk.

The court said, “We believe that the life of any citizen is precious and government officials should make every possible effort to save it.” The court also gave this order, We appreciate the stand of the Solicitor General and direct that Wangchuk’s medical condition be monitored daily and whatever medical help is necessary be given.
The court gave this order while hearing a PIL expressing concern about Wangchuk’s health. Cockroach Janata Party has been protesting for more than 25 days demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET UG examination. Wangchuk joined the movement on June 28 and has been on hunger strike since then.
