
Former Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee has suffered another big shock. His party’s MP Koel Mallik resigned from the Rajya Sabha just a few months after taking oath. The Bengali film actress took oath as an MP in the Rajya Sabha in April this year and after that she did not attend the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha even once.
Koel Mallik submitted his resignation to Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan. her husband with her Her husband Nishpal Singh was also there.
He wrote that he has resigned as MP. She wrote in the letter, “I am resigning from the membership of Rajya Sabha, which should be accepted immediately.” She further said, “I sincerely thank the Deputy Chairman and all the officers of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, who provided all kinds of help and cooperation during my tenure as a Rajya Sabha member.”

Mallik’s resignation is one of many such setbacks for TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee, who is going through one of the worst political crises after TMC’s crushing defeat against the Bharatiya Janata Party in the recently held West Bengal Assembly elections. Earlier, 20 Lok Sabha MPs of Trinamool Congress have announced their merger with NCPI by breaking ties with Trinamool Congress.
Three Rajya Sabha MPs Sukhendu Shekhar Rai, Sushmita Dev and Prakash Chik Baraik had resigned from TMC, later BJP has made these three leaders its candidates in the Rajya Sabha by-election.
Mallick’s resignation comes a day after Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra joined the rebel camp in the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday.
Had given resignation through email earlier
Koel Mallik took oath as Rajya Sabha MP in Delhi on 6 April. He has also been seen campaigning for elections. However, after the defeat he did not give any statement publicly.
Koel Mallik expressed his intention to resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha through email on June 11. However, at that time he was told that resignation through email would not be accepted.
However, his resignation was delayed due to him being out of the country for personal reasons. Koyal himself submitted his resignation after returning to the country on Wednesday. Sources say that Koyal Mallik has also met Union Minister Bhupendra Kumar Yadav.
