Director Chetan DK’s new film ‘The India Story’ claims to expose this dreadful and bitter reality. Story
The story of the film revolves around Yogesh Patil (Shreyas Talpade), who is an ex-soldier of the Indian Army. Yogesh loves his 7 year old innocent daughter Pari (Trisha Sharda) more than life. But his happy life gets ruined when his little angel is affected by a deadly disease like cancer. Through doctors and tests, Yogesh comes to know that the cause of his daughter’s condition is not any genetic disease, but dangerous and poisonous pesticides sprayed on crops, which have reached her body through food. After losing his daughter, Yogesh’s aim is not only to take revenge, but he also starts a war against the entire food supply chain and poisonous farming of the country. He decides to drag the big corporate pesticide brands and systems to the High Court. But the battle is not easy!
The police even refuses to register an FIR and no lawyer in the city is ready to fight his case. In such a situation, advocate Archana (Kajal Aggarwal) enters, who holds Yogesh’s hand without any fear. On the other hand, a cunning lawyer (Manish Wadhwa) comes to present the companies’ side. ‘The India Story’ is a film made with good intentions. The issue of use of toxic pesticides on crops, which is causing cancer in children, is truly a hair-raising and eye-opening issue. When you see a father on screen fighting his 7 year old daughter’s cancer, that emotion hits straight to the heart. But if seen through the lens of cinema, the social message becomes so dominant in it that it seems as if we are not watching a film, but a documentary or awareness camp of the health department. The courtroom drama is filled with excessive crying, loud melodrama and long speeches like in the 90s. The issue which could have been very effective and thrilling, starts looking a bit boring on the screen due to the loose screenplay and slow pace.

Shreyas Talpade (Yogesh Patil) Has dedicated his life to the role of a helpless, broken but never losing courage father. Shreyas has done a great job in his emotional scenes conveying the pain of losing his innocent daughter and the anger against the system in his eyes. He brings the pain of a common father on screen very well.
Kajal Aggarwal (Advocate Archana) Has played the role of a fearless and tough lawyer. Even though the script is a bit loose in the long courtroom speeches, Kajal’s work on emotional and sensitive occasions is quite effective and worth watching.
Trisha Sharda (Fairy) Has won most hearts in this film. Seeing his innocence and his pain on the hospital bed, any viewer’s eyes can become moist.
Manish Wadhwa and Murali Sharma: Manish Wadhwa has made his familiar yet effective presence in the role of defense lawyer. Whereas Murali Sharma leaves a mark even in a small role in the cameo of a police officer.

Direction, Music and Making
The film is directed by Chetan DK, this is his first film and its story is written by Sagar B. Shinde has written. The disclaimer of the film makes it clear at the very beginning that it is based on news and information available in the public domain. Talking about making, the intentions of the makers are 100% noble and in public interest. The film directly attacks the fear that resides in our hearts about adulteration of milk, spraying of colors and pesticides on vegetables. But, if seen from the lens of cinema, the biggest weakness of the film is its outdated making! There is also a lot of laxity in background music and editing. If the editor had used a little scissor and increased the thriller element by reducing the speeches, the film would have created a different atmosphere.

Overall, ‘The India Story’ is not a very amazing technical or Oscar-level cinematic masterpiece, but its emotion and message directly touches the heart. This is such a mirror-showing film that will force you to think about the food on your plate. If you want to see social issues, courtroom drama and acting of Shreyas Talpade, then this film is a one time watch for you. But if you are just looking for spicy entertainment, action and value-for-money entertainment, then perhaps this film is not for you.
