The biggest tension will be over! Will WhatsApp Chats be backed up without iCloud storage?

July 14, 2026 by Uma Shankar

New features keep coming on WhatsApp for better experience of the users, now it has come to light that the company may soon give a new feature to the iPhone users. The company is working on a new cloud backup option, which can reduce the dependence on Apple’s iCloud service. It is being said that the introduction of this feature will allow users to store chat backups on WhatsApp’s servers instead of iCloud, which will also provide them with the security of end-to-end encryption. This function is still in development and not yet available for beta testing. It was mentioned in the reports that surfaced some time ago that a similar backup option is being prepared for WhatsApp Android users also.

2 options for iPhone users

whatsapp According to a post by development tracking site WABetaInfo, the upcoming feature has been spotted in iOS beta version 26.28.10.16. The publication says that iPhone users will finally be able to choose between iCloud and WhatsApp backup services when configuring chat backups. iCloud will remain the default backup option, while users will be able to switch to WhatsApp’s backup service and return to iCloud at any time.

WhatsApp will give so many GB free cloud storage

WhatsApp is expected to provide 2GB free cloud storage for chat backup. With this, users will be able to reserve their iCloud storage for photos, files, device backups and other applications. At the same time, Apple provides 5GB free iCloud storage which is shared between photos, files, device backups and applications. Large WhatsApp backups can eat up space quickly, forcing users to delete stored data or purchase a paid iCloud storage plan. The company can also bring paid storage option for those users who need more cloud storage. Apart from the 1TB option, the company is testing a 50 GB plan for which you may have to pay around $0.99 (approximately Rs 95) per month.
