
On the 21st day of the fast, activist Sonam Wangchuk was first brought to the emergency ward of Safdarjung Hospital. Here all the parts of his body are being examined. The hospital administration has formed a medical board for him. Doctors from medicine, endocrinology department, nephrology and cardiology are present in this board. According to hospital sources, Sonam Wangchuk’s vitals are normal, that is, her basic tests like BP, pulse, breathing, temperature are fine.
Hypotensive and hypoglycemic i.e. BP is low and sugar is also low. His ECG is normal. The hospital administration may issue a medical bulletin regarding Sonam Wangchuk in the afternoon. He has been kept under special security cover in the hospital.
‘There is a problem of mild dehydration’
Dr Charu Bamba, Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, said, “Sonam Wangchuk reached our hospital around 7:40 am. Due to prolonged fasting, he is a little weak and has mild dehydration. Apart from this, all his vital parameters are stable. He is being continuously examined and monitored and is undergoing treatment.
He said that he is completely conscious and stable. Initially, upon reaching the hospital, he was seen by the Emergency Medicine Department and now he has been admitted to the Medicine Department. We will keep him under observation for some time as there are signs that his electrolyte levels are being affected due to dehydration. “We will fix it and then review his situation again.”
What did the wife say?
Mr Wangchuk’s wife Gitanjali J. Angmo said that he is in Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where the activist has been admitted. Geetanjali said, “Nothing should be given to him orally or intravenously without the approval of me, his family and those doctors.”
After being released from custody, ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ founder Abhijit Dipke addressed the protesters at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. He told the students, “This action of RSS goons – forcibly taking away Sonam Wangchuk, if they think that this will end the protests, then it will not. We will stand here and march from here to Parliament on July 20.”
