To promote respectful attitude towards women working at home, the Supreme Court said that now the word nation builder should be used for them instead of homemaker. The court said that the same word should be used for wives because of their huge contribution to the family. The Supreme Court has issued some important instructions regarding loss of household income in this case. Justice Sanjay Karol said that we also believe that a housewife who takes care of the house contributes to the development of the individual and the country.
The court said how will you evaluate that contribution in terms of money? We have set some principles and act as a ‘nation-builder’. The court said that along with this, the amount of loss of monthly income related to domestic care has been fixed at ₹ 30 thousand per month. That is, the court says that the work of a housewife who takes care of the house (cooking, taking care of children, taking care of the family, etc.) is very valuable. Even if she does not earn money from outside, her contribution will be considered equal to ₹30,000 per month.
‘I am confident that everyone will call him a nation builder’
The court said that we have also created a new principle after the ‘Pranay Sethi’ case and this is in addition to what was decided in that case. We have issued certain directions and we hope and trust that the Chief Justices of all the High Courts will keep an eye on all these matters and the procedure laid down under Section 169 of the Act, i.e. a ‘summary procedure’ will be followed in full and in true spirit.
Justice Sanjay Karol further said that loss of home care would be an additional ground over and above what was decided in the ‘Pranay Sethi’ case. The court said that we only hope and trust that the woman who takes care of the house will now be called ‘nation-builder’.
