Delhi Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood on Thursday inspected the EWS (Economically Weaker Section) housing project located at Bhalswa and took stock of the progress of the repair and expansion works going on there. He said that the Delhi government is rapidly completing the work of EWS flats to provide respectable housing to the poor families living in the slums of the capital.
Sood said that in order to fulfill the guarantee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the old houses already constructed are being redesigned and expanded, so that they can be made as per the modern standards of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
Ashish Sood Did a detailed inspection of the ongoing expansion and repair works at the project site. It is noteworthy that he had also visited this project in February this year and had instructed the officials to make the EWS flats more respectable and convenient by increasing the carpet area.
More than 7,400 EWS flats in the project
Sood said that the size of these houses is being increased under the guidance of the Prime Minister. The already constructed structures are being expanded by at least four to five square meters to ensure best use of taxpayers’ money. He said that the objective of the government is to ensure that poor families have access to better, safe and convenient housing.
During the inspection, the Minister closely observed the size of the rooms, new flooring and other construction works and instructed the officials that all the works should be completed in a timely manner with high quality, so that the families can live in a comfortable and dignified environment. The project includes more than 7,400 EWS flats.
Flats will be allotted to eligible families
Taking aim at the previous government, Sood said that due to procedural hurdles and political indecision for years, the benefits of these houses could not reach the eligible families. He said that now the era of blame game is over and the present government will ensure allotment of these houses in a phased and transparent manner.
Sood said that after the completion of the repair work, a joint final inspection will be conducted with the Chief Minister. Based on the suggestions of the Chief Minister, the allocation process will be taken forward after obtaining final guidance from the Union Home Minister and senior leadership.
The minister said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these houses are being expanded as per the standards of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Necessary changes are being made in old constructed flats to make them modern and more useful. Delhi government will very soon implement ‘Modi’s Guarantee’ and provide respectable housing to the eligible poor families.
