Ramayana trailer Explain: Why Sunny Deol as Hanuman was not seen in the trailer of Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Ramayana’, understand

July 30, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Producer Namit Malhotra and director Nimesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana is in the headlines. The trailer started on Thursday morning, the first day of Sawan. The trailer is being well received but some questions are also being raised. In the trailer, Ranbir Kapoor was seen as Ram, Yash was seen as Ravana, Arun Govil was seen as Dasharatha, Ravi Dubey was seen as Laxman – apart from these, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi was seen and Rakulpreet Singh as Shurpanakha was also seen but once again Sunny Deol as Hanuman was not seen. After all, why Hanuman ji could not be seen this time too – questions have been raised on social media regarding this.

ramayan trailer As much as the audience was excited to see it, they were equally disappointed at not seeing Sunny Deol in it. Let us tell you that even in the teaser of Ramayana, no glimpse of Hanuman ji was seen. Then it was speculated that Sunny Deol would probably be seen in the trailer but this time also Bajrang Bali did not appear. Whereas recently, when the entire team of Ramayana was seen together on the stage in Delhi, Sunny Deol was present there. Moreover, he also reached the mega event organized in San Diego Comic Zone, California.

What is the strategy of not showing Hanuman?

Wherever the promotion of Ramayana film takes place, Sunny Deol reaches there. But till now Sunny Deol as Hanuman has not been seen in either the teaser or the trailer, why – there is a need to understand this strategy deeply. By the way, let us tell you that the trailer of Ramayana is very impressive. Ranbir and Yash create thrill in their respective getups and actions. Special effects can fascinate the audience. The background score also does not seem to dominate the acting of the actors. The acting and dialogues do not harm the delivery, it maintains the audience’s concentration.

One of the reasons given for not showing Sunny Deol in the teaser and trailer of Ramayan till now is that it would have given less focus to Ranbir Kapoor and the rest of the cast. Sunny Deol would have grabbed all the attention. If the entire focus in Ramayana is taken by Hanuman as an actor, then the impact of Ram as a hero may become weak. And if the hero’s influence appears weaker than that of the supporting cast, then doubts deepen over the success of the project.

Ramayana Trailer

What is the feeling of director and producer?

But believe me, the director and producer have no such intention behind not showing Sunny Deol till now. Today, Ranbir Kapoor and Yash have also achieved the status of big superstars. Both are successful box office artists. Both the actors have blockbuster films registered in their names. If there was a fear that his shine would diminish in front of Sunny, then why would Sunny Deol have been cast in Ramayana?

In fact, the reason why Hanuman has not been shown in the trailer till now is rooted in the Ramayana story itself. Hanuman ji is not a hero in Ramayana, he is a servant of Ram ji, whose incident comes much later. Hanuman is a symbol of sacrifice, strength, service and meditation. He is a follower of Ram. A devotee who is always present for the cause of Ram. How to show it to the devotee in advance. First God then devotee. In this spirit, Hanuman’s image has not been shown in the promotions till now.

Separate promotional content focused on Hanuman

Secondly, when the trailer of any film comes, the hero, heroine and villain are prominently shown in it and not the servants or supporting characters. The third thing is that Ramayana will be seen in cinema halls on the occasion of Diwali. By then many more promotional contents of the film will come. Songs of Ramayana will come, some other incidents will come, in this sequence a motion poster or a separate video centered on Hanuman ji will come! Since Hanuman, despite being a servant, is a major majestic character in Ramayana, he will be kept in separate focus. And if Sunny Deol is playing that character then anyway the expectation of attention will be different.

This time Ram came for ‘world welfare’

Let us tell you that Namit Malhotra and director Nitesh Tiwari have tried to make this project suitable for global scale with a huge budget of around Rs 4000 crores. An attempt has been made to give a global perspective of Shri Ram’s bravery and heroism. There is a dialogue by Ranbir Kapoor playing Ram in the trailer- “Even if I die for the welfare of the world, I will accept it.” The larger perspective of this dialogue should be understood. According to an information, Namit’s Ramayana will be released dubbed in more than 40 languages across the world.

Let us also tell you that Namit-Nitesh’s Ramayana is different from the tradition of the entire Ramayana made under the direction of Babubhai Mistry in the year 1961, Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana serial or all the Ramayana based films and serials even after that. In earlier productions, there has been more emphasis on devotion and character building. But in this Ramayana, along with the power of devotion, the global hero aspect of Shri Ram has also been highlighted. There is a dialogue in the trailer- “This is the beginning of the era of Ram.” From this, this dream project of the director-producer can be understood.

Know the intentions of producer Namit Malhotra

Recently, during the first darshan held in Delhi, producer Namit Malhotra had expressed his intentions in clear words. He said – If the stories of old civilizations and their heroes of many big countries of the world reach us with full grandeur through Hollywood, then why should we not also bring the inspiring stories of our roots on the world stage with the same grandeur.

Anyway, there will be wait for Ramayan film on Diwali.
