Hearing is going on in the Supreme Court on Thursday on the petition of the Muslim side in which it has been said that the court’s instructions to provide an alternative place for offering Friday prayers near the disputed Bhojshala complex in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh have not been followed.
The bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana had said during the hearing on July 24 that the petition would be heard on Wednesday. However, due to the early rise of the bench yesterday, the matter could not be heard.
The hearing was postponed for today
When the bench was about to end the day’s proceedings yesterday, senior advocate Huzefa Ahmadi mentioned this case. On this the Chief Justice said that the petition will be heard on Thursday.
During the mention of the case, the CJI asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the state government, “Why don’t you inform Ahmadi about the alternative venue?” Ahmadi said in his complaint, “Your orders are not being followed. The site given is 1.3 kilometers away and the Collector has ordered that only this site will be allotted.” He said that the earlier instructions of the court are not being followed. On this Mehta said that the administration has identified another place.
An empty land near Bhojshala: Muslim side
“No, no. We met again. We have another place,” he told the bench. Ahmadi expressed strong objection to this proposed place and said that this place is not right and is too far. The Muslim side said that this other place is very far away and is part of a brewery. While suggesting, he said that there is a Dargah near the Bhojshala site and there is also vacant land in front of it which can be allotted. We can be given that place. They cannot bow down to the bullying of any one community.
Earlier, while hearing the appeal of the Muslim side on July 14, the country’s largest court had directed the state government to provide a separate open space near the disputed Bhojshala premises for Friday prayers between 1 pm and 3 pm, until the final decision of the case is taken.
