
President Draupadi Murmu will pay a state visit to Moldova, North Macedonia and Romania from 19 to 25 July. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the President’s visit to three countries further strengthens India’s comprehensive engagement with Europe and its strategic partnership with the European Union (EU). Sibi George, Secretary (West), Ministry of External Affairs, said that this visit of three countries is very important historically, as this is the first bilateral visit of an Indian President to the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of North Macedonia.
The ministry said that President Murmu’s visit to Romania will be the first state visit by an Indian President to this country in more than three decades. The presidential level visit to Romania is taking place after 32 years. The last visit was made by the then President Shankar Dayal Sharma in 1994.
India’s increasing connection with Europe
Sibi George said that this three-nation visit reflects India’s growing engagement with Central and Eastern Europe and reiterates our resolve to strengthen our partnership with the countries of the region. It also furthers India’s engagement with Europe and its strategic partnership with the European Union.
First visit of Indian President to Moldova
President Murmu will visit this Eastern European country on July 20 at the invitation of Moldova’s President Maya Sandu. This will be the first visit of an Indian President to Moldova. During her visit, President Murmu will meet her counterpart and hold delegation level talks. She will also meet Igor Grosu, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of External Affairs said that President Murmu will also interact with members of the Moldova-India Parliamentary Friendship Group, address a business forum and also meet NRIs.
President will visit North Macedonia
At the invitation of North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova, President Murmu will visit the country on July 21 and 22. The Ministry of External Affairs said that this will be the first visit of an Indian President to North Macedonia. The ministry said President Murmu will hold bilateral talks with President Davkova, meet Prime Minister Hristijn Mikoskovski and the Speaker of the Parliament and address the Parliament of North Macedonia. She will also address the India-North Macedonia Business Forum.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that both sides have keen interest in strengthening economic relations in priority sectors like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science and technology, information technology and related services.
President Murmu will visit Romania on 23rd
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Murmu will visit this country from July 23 to 25 at the invitation of Romanian President Nicosor Dan. This will be the first visit by an Indian President to this south-eastern European country after more than three decades. President Murmu will also address the India-Romania Business Forum and interact with NRIs.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Romania is an important partner in the European Union and the completion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement will further strengthen the economic partnership between the two countries in the coming years.
