
The case of alleged theft in Ayodhya’s Ram temple continues to be in the headlines. Opposition parties are continuously targeting BJP and the central government regarding this issue. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge have demanded from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to conduct an independent and comprehensive investigation into the financial affairs of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Besides, questions have also been raised on the silence of the PM.
Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge have written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It has been requested to order a comprehensive investigation of the donations received by the Trust. ‘We urge you to immediately order an independent and comprehensive investigation into the financial affairs of the Trust, including the management of all types of offerings including cash, gold and silver,’ the letter said. The findings of the investigation and the accounts of the Trust should be made public so that every devotee can know how his offerings have been utilized.
Demand to make trust accounts public
The leaders said in their letter, ‘You are aware of the theft of thousands of crores of rupees in Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. Lakhs of devotees who had donated their hard-earned money with faith, devotion and trust are feeling cheated by this theft. Both leaders demanded the trust’s accounts be made public and said those found guilty should be held accountable regardless of position or influence. He told the Prime Minister that he had announced the formation of the Trust in Parliament on the instructions of the Supreme Court, but its members were appointed entirely by his government.

‘Trust members were appointed by the government’
The leaders said, ‘You announced the formation of the Trust in Parliament on the instructions of the Supreme Court of India, but its members have been appointed entirely by your government. It is well known that the members of the Trust are associated with RSS, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and its affiliated organizations. Before this, the General Secretary was also your close associate.
‘Prime Minister’s silence is unacceptable’
Congress leaders said the Prime Minister’s silence on the issue was unacceptable and urged him to ensure accountability and compensation. He said, ‘Your silence in the face of such a crime is unacceptable. It is your duty to ensure accountability and compensation. We urge you to immediately order an independent and comprehensive investigation into the financial affairs of the Trust, including the management of all types of offerings including cash, gold and silver.’
‘The culprits must be held accountable’
Congress leaders said that whoever is found guilty in this case should be held accountable, regardless of position or influence. The leaders said, ‘The credibility of your government and trust depends on how transparently and quickly you take action. The people of India are watching. Jai Hind!’. The letter reads, ‘The findings of the investigation and the accounts of the Trust should be made public so that every devotee can know how their offerings have been used’.
SIT is investigating the case
The case pertains to allegations of financial irregularities in donations received by Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, the organization overseeing the construction and management of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. The SIT is investigating these allegations and will present its findings before the Supreme Court as per the court’s directions. At present the matter is being investigated in depth.
