Now you will become MP-MLA at the age of 21, not 25! Telangana CM Revanth Reddy’s big bet on Gen-Z

July 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy made a big announcement on Saturday. He said that the state government will soon call a special session of the Assembly so that a resolution can be passed requesting the Center to raise the minimum age to 21 years for contesting Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and 25 years for Legislative Council and Rajya Sabha.

CM Reddy said, ‘In the first week of August, we will call a special session of the Assembly and Legislative Council and pass a resolution raising the minimum age to 21 years to contest elections as an MLA or MP. We will send this resolution to the Centre.

Examples given from many countries

He said that Gen-Z has less than 1% representation in Parliament. He said that a generation which constitutes about 30% of the population should be given more representation in our assemblies. He said that if the youth of Gen Z become Education Minister and IT Minister then the country will move forward. He suggested amending the Constitution to give 21-year-olds the opportunity to contest elections as MLAs and MPs. Giving examples of Germany, Great Britain and Singapore, he said that youth aged 18-21 years there can become the head of the country, Prime Minister or President. Revanth Reddy said why India cannot follow this path.

‘Gen Z forced to resign’

Addressing a ‘candle light’ rally organized over the NEET paper leak issue, he claimed that the ‘Gen-Z’ movement forced Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down from his post. He said that the youth will have to reach Parliament from the streets to make their voice reach the world.

‘If Rahul Gandhi becomes PM, Gen-Z will be made education minister’

Along with this, he also said that he will talk about giving Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Gen Z leader from INDIA Alliance a chance to become Union Education Minister. He said that if Rahul Gandhi becomes the Prime Minister, he will take the responsibility of ensuring that a leader from Gen Z becomes the Union Education Minister.

Addressing the candle march, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy claimed that the Gen Z movement defeated the 56-inch chest and forced Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramark, several ministers, Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders and a large number of youth participated in this march.
