Now Gmail account will be opened just by showing the face, know how to turn on this feature

July 26, 2026 by Uma Shankar

If you often do not remember the password of your Gmail account, then Google has now given an easy solution for this. The company has started a new feature of signing in to Google account through selfie video. With the help of this feature, one can log in to the account by just showing one’s face when needed. However, before using it, you will have to setup this feature in your Google account.

Setup selfie video feature like this

According to Google, to use this feature, first of all you have to update the Google app or Gmail app in your phone to the latest version. After this, tap on the profile photo and go to Manage Your Google Account. Here open the Security & Sign In section and go to Add more sign in options below and select the Selfie Video option. After granting camera permissions and accepting the terms, record a selfie video by turning your face in different directions as per the instructions on the screen. After this your face will be saved as a new way to sign in to the account.

Easy to change or delete selfie video

If you have already saved a selfie video and want to change or delete it, this work can also be done from the settings of your Google Account. For this, open Manage Your Google Account by tapping on the profile photo in Google App or Gmail App. Then go to Security and Sign In section and select Selfie Video option. Here you will get the option to remove or change the already saved video. Give camera permission to record a new video and record the face again as per the instructions on the screen.

Google told how safe this feature is

Google says that the selfie video feature has been designed keeping privacy and security in mind. Your selfie video is stored securely with your permission, and you can delete it at any time from your Google Account. According to the company, this video is used only to assist in signing in, unless you agree to other permissions. During sign in, the new selfie video is merged with the previously saved video. Along with this, multiple security layers are used to detect live movement and identify fake photos or videos like deepfakes. Google says that this feature will work together with other secure sign in options like passkey and recovery contact to provide secure access to the account.
