Under the leadership of the government, under the Yamuna Bank Cleanliness Campaign 2026, the government organized a mega cleaning drive simultaneously on 28 ghats and coastal areas of the capital in order to give the form of a mass movement to the resolve to make the Yamuna clean, pure and uninterrupted. During this, Delhi government ministers, MLAs and BJP workers conducted a large-scale cleaning campaign on many ghats located on the banks of the Yamuna river. Thousands of volunteers from different organizations and party leaders also took part in this campaign.
CM Rekha Gupta herself reached Geeta Colony Ghat and took part in the cleanliness campaign. During this time, he cleaned and along with citizens and volunteers took active participation in the work of removing garbage from the banks of Yamuna. On this occasion, CM said that Yamuna is not just a river, but is the basis of faith, culture and life of crores of people. He said that if we pollute Yamuna then the purpose of any kind of worship cannot be fulfilled.

‘Cleanliness of Yamuna is collective responsibility’
He said that cleanliness of Yamuna is the collective responsibility of all of us and for this both the government and society will have to work together. He said that the government is working on a large scale to clean Yamuna, but along with this, citizens will also have to play their role. He appealed to the people not to throw any kind of garbage, plastic, puja material, flower garlands, idols or other garbage in Yamuna. He said that today during the cleaning campaign, a large quantity of broken idols, clothes of God, puja materials wrapped in plastic and other garbage were taken out from the banks of Yamuna, which is an indication that we will have to change our habits and behavior also.
Government will continue the campaign
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that today, thousands of Delhiites and volunteers have set an excellent example of public participation by running a cleanliness campaign together on the approximately 22 km long coastal area of Yamuna in different parts of the capital. He said that this cleanliness campaign will not be limited to any one day. He said that the Delhi government will regularly run such campaigns at various places and from time to time citizens will be invited to participate in it. He expressed confidence that through public participation and continuous efforts, one day the people of Delhi will definitely see the clean, pure and uninterrupted form of Yamuna.
Delhi is ours and the cleanliness of Yamuna is also our responsibility.

Yamuna’s old glory will return
CM said that taking inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and vision of environmental protection, the Delhi government is giving top priority to Yamuna revitalization. In this direction, the government is working in mission mode to prevent pollution falling into Yamuna, strengthen sewage management and promote water conservation. He said that various projects related to Yamuna revitalization and water management are being taken forward rapidly by the government. Under this, projects worth more than Rs 1,000 crore have been approved. He said that under Amrit Yojana, 12 new decentralized sewage treatment plants are being set up in Najafgarh area at a cost of Rs 860 crore, which will prevent sewage from going into Najafgarh drain and Yamuna. Apart from this, many important initiatives related to upgradation of Keshopur STP, promotion of rain water harvesting and water conservation are also being taken.

This mega campaign was organized simultaneously at 28 ghats and coastal sites of Yamuna, including Chilla Gaon Ghat, Nizamuddin Ghat, Thokar No. 14 Geeta Colony Ghat, Thokar No. 18 Gandhi Nagar Ghat, Old Iron Bridge Ghat, Signature Bridge-Wazirabad Ghat (East Bank), Zero Pushta Radha-Krishna Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Dhai Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Chautha. Pushta Ghat (Sonia Vihar), Kalindi Kunj Ghat, ITO Ghat, Ram Ghat, Kali Ghat, Shyam Ghat, Surghat, Vasudev Ghat, Railway Bridge Upstream, ITO Downstream (East Bank), ITO Upstream (Right Bank), Sarai Kale Khan, Yamuna Bank, Thokar No. 13, Qudesiya Ghat, Nigam Bodh Ghat, East Bank (downstream of Wazirabad), Signature Bridge (west bank), Mayur Vihar Yamuna Khadar and Kalindi Kunj downstream (east bank). At all these places, public representatives, officials, more than 500 social and voluntary organizations, thousands of volunteers and local citizens together reiterated their resolve to make Yamuna clean, pure and uninterrupted by running cleanliness campaigns.
Pledge to clean Yamuna
During the campaign, the Chief Minister also administered a collective pledge of Yamuna cleanliness to the present citizens, volunteers and representatives of various organizations. Everyone pledged that they will not throw puja material, flower garlands and idols into the Yamuna, will not use polythene and single-use plastic, will not throw old clothes, garbage or any kind of waste in the river, will actively cooperate in keeping the Yamuna banks clean and beautiful and will also make other people aware about Yamuna cleanliness. CM said that cleanliness of Yamuna is not only the responsibility of the government, but the duty of every citizen and only through public participation, Yamuna can be given a clean and uninterrupted form again.
