Maintain distance from your own motherly love! Just 20 MLAs arrived at TMC meeting, ’60 are busy’

May 31, 2026 by Uma Shankar

After losing power in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee seems to be in trouble. After the attack on nephew Abhishek and party MP Kalyan Banerjee, Mamata had called a meeting of party MLAs. This meeting started at Mamta’s house in Kalighat at 4 pm on Sunday evening. But surprisingly, only 20 MLAs attended this meeting. Whereas the number of TMC MLAs is 80. Most of the senior MLAs had attended Mamata Banerjee’s meeting. Why did the remaining 60 MLAs not reach the meeting? Various speculations are being made in this regard.

It is being said whether there is a split in Trinamool? It is being speculated that the remaining 60 are in contact with the ruling party somewhere. However, at present there has been no statement from any TMC or BJP leader on this. Amidst this speculation, Beleghata MLA Kunal Ghosh came outside Mamata’s Kalighat house and tried to show the ‘unity’ of the party. He said that most of the MLAs are busy in programs in their respective areas. Therefore the meeting has been cancelled.

Mamata Banerjee had called a meeting of party MLAs at her Kalighat home at 4 pm on Sunday. In this meeting, MLAs Kunal Ghosh, Shobhandev Chatterjee, Madan Mitra, Nayana Banerjee, Ashok Kumar Deb and Biman Banerjee came one by one, but their number remained stuck at 20. The number of Trinamool Congress MLAs is 80. Questions began to arise as to why only 20 people came to the meeting. After which MLA Kunal Ghosh had to come forward and give clarification.

TMC MLAs are protesting in their respective areas

Kunal Ghosh told reporters, “Yesterday, Trinamool’s All India General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee was attacked. Today MP Kalyan Banerjee was attacked again. In protest against this, Trinamool MLAs are organizing programs in their respective areas. Police have detained many people. The MLAs are trying to free those workers. That is why they had requested the party on the phone to postpone today’s meeting. The call came even today. Therefore, today’s meeting was postponed. And those who Came, they held an internal meeting among themselves.”

Trinamool workers will protest on 1st and Mamata on 2nd June

He further said that on June 1, Trinamool workers will take out protest marches from ward to ward and block to block. And on June 2, Mamata Banerjee will hold a one-day dharna on various issues including the attack on Abhishek and removal of hawkers from Rani Rashmoni Road. At the same time, BJP MLA from Maniktala Tapas Roy took a dig at the Trinamool supremo canceling the meeting with the MLAs and said, “Trinamool MLAs have expressed no confidence in Mamata Banerjee.”
