Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav alleged on Sunday that the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, built at a cost of Rs 4,700 crore, caved in even before its inauguration. According to the government program, today (July 13) at 3 pm, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway from Unnao.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Unnao unit president Anurag Awasthi has hit back at Yadav’s statement. The project director of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) claimed that the expressway did not sink from anywhere.
Akhilesh Yadav made a big allegation
Taking a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government, the SP chief, in a post on social media platform He said that the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway built at a cost of Rs 4,700 crore during the BJP government collapsed even before its inauguration, whereas in Maharashtra, the missing link built at a cost of Rs 6,700 crore during the BJP government fell into disrepair, due to which it became infamous in the whole world as the connecting link of the BJP government and the corrupt.
Competition of grand corruption in BJP ruled states
Akhilesh Yadav asked, is there a competition of grand corruption taking place in BJP ruled states? Have the people of Lucknow prepared the design of these two projects? He claimed that it would take more time to enter the city through the expressway than the time taken to travel between two cities. The public is asking whether this project has been made for the convenience of the people or to provide profits to the contractors associated with BJP?

Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations baseless: BJP
The SP chief said that if the situation remains the same due to corruption, then the traveler will think 40 times before setting out on a 40-minute journey. If the speed is not safe, it means nothing. Meanwhile, BJP’s Unnao district unit president Anurag Awasthi termed Akhilesh Yadav’s allegations as baseless and said that the opposition is making unnecessary statements regarding development works.
He said that people who are frustrated and mentally weak and who do not like development are making such statements to maintain their identity in the society and to register their presence among the people before the 2027 assembly elections. Awasthi said that if there is any minor technical deficiency related to the construction work, then the concerned agency will resolve it. He said that making such allegations before the inauguration is motivated by malicious intent.
NHAI rejected the allegations
NHAI Project Director Nakul Prakash Verma also rejected the claim of the expressway sinking and said that no part of the expressway has sunk. He said that this expressway will be opened for the general public from 8 am on July 14. After this, milk will become milk and water will become water.
Nakul Prakash Verma said, if I am speaking wrong, then the general public will decide for themselves. He clarified that the place whose pictures are being shared on social media is not the main road of the expressway, but the soil on the roadside. He said that it is a matter of routine maintenance.
No effect on strength or traffic safety
The NHAI director said that this has not affected the structural strength of the expressway or the traffic safety. The concerned portion has been repaired and all necessary technical work will be completed before inauguration. He said that the expressway is completely safe and has been built as per all the quality standards.
