July 18, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Mohammad Nawaz vs Piyush Chawla, Lanka Premier League 2026: The sixth season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL 2026) started in a very exciting and explosive manner. In the very first match of the season played at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo, the fans got to see an interesting mini mega match between the players of India and Pakistan. In this T20 league, while Pakistan’s star all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz is playing for the Galle Gallants team, former Indian leg spinner Piyush Chawla took the field in the Jaffna Kings jersey. When these two giants came face to face in the match, the excitement of the match increased a lot.

Piyush Chawla overpowered Mohammad Nawaz

In this match, Jaffna Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. At the same time, Piyush Chawla came to bowl the 20th and last over of the innings of Galle Gallants from Jaffna Kings. Pakistan’s left-handed batsman Mohammad Nawaz was present at the crease. Nawaz, while counter-attacking the Indian spinner, hit 3 skyscraper sixes in his over, which took the Galle team’s score beyond 200.

Even though Mohammad Nawaz hit long shots on Chawla’s balls, the Indian bowler did not lose courage and completed his revenge by getting Nawaz caught by David VJ on the last ball of the over. In this match, Piyush Chawla spent 43 runs in his quota of 4 overs and took 2 important wickets.

Galle Gallants won the first match

If we talk about the match, the Galle Gallants team batted first and scored a huge score of 213 in 20 overs, thanks to the brilliant innings of 65 runs by captain Charit Aslanka and in the end, Dasun Shanaka’s unbeaten 31 and Mohammad Nawaz’s 21-run cameo. In reply, Jaffna Kings team could not play even 20 overs and were bundled out for 177 runs in 19.4 overs. Galle Gallants bowler Ishan Malinga bowled lethally and took 4 wickets for 26 runs, due to which Galle Gallants made their winning start in the tournament by winning the very first match by a huge margin of 36 runs.
