Kanwar Yatra 2026: Who is going to bring Kanwar for the first time in Sawan? Please follow these rules

Kanwar Yatra Rules: The month of Saavan is considered very sacred in Sanatan Dharma. This is the fifth month of the Hindi calendar. This month is especially dedicated to the devotion of Lord Shiva, because according to mythological beliefs, in the month of Saavan, Lord Shiva protected the creation by keeping the poison emanating from the churning of the ocean in his throat. In this month, Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek of Lord Shiva are performed. According to the Drik Panchang, this year the holy month of Saavan is starting from 30th July, which will end on 28th August on the full moon day of the month of Saavan.

As soon as the month of Sawan starts, Kanwar Yatra also starts. Kavad Yatra has special religious significance in Sanatan Dharma. In this journey, devotees of Lord Shiva bring water from holy rivers to Kanwar and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Mahadev. There is a religious belief that by carrying Kanwar every wish is fulfilled. One gets relief from pain, suffering and disease, but many important things have been told about Kanwar Yatra, which is very important to follow. If you are going to bring Kanwar for the first time, then definitely follow these rules.

If you are going to bring Kanwar, then do not consume meat, alcohol and tamasic things before Saavan and throughout the month of Saavan. Take special care of cleanliness during Kanwar Yatra. While travelling, do not keep Kanwad filled with water on the ground even by mistake. Keep the Kanwad at a high place only. Never touch Kanwar without taking bath. Never keep your Kanwar under a tree during the journey. Do not carry the Kanwar above your head. Do not say bad words to anyone during the journey. Raise the slogan of ‘Bol Bam’ from your heart.

Beginning and end of Kanwar Yatra 2026

This year, Kavad Yatra will start with the beginning of the month of Sawan i.e. from 30th July. Though Kanwar Yatra continues throughout Saavan, but the main Kanwar Yatra lasts only till Shivratri of Saavan. This year the festival of Sawan Shivratri will be celebrated on 11th August. Mainly Kanwar Yatra will end on this day. However, there is a huge crowd of Kanwariyas throughout the month of Sawan in other famous Shiva temples including Baidyanath Dham of Jharkhand.
