Indian electric cars famous abroad, demand increased from Europe to Africa

July 27, 2026 by Uma Shankar

The demand for electric cars (EV) made in India is increasing rapidly in foreign countries. Exports of electric cars from India have increased 14 times in the quarter from April to June 2026. While only 1,122 electric cars were sent abroad in the same period last year, this year this figure has increased to 15,641 units. The special thing is that this number is more than half of the total EV exports in the last entire financial year.

Experts say that due to America-Iran tension, the prices of petrol and diesel have increased across the world. In such a situation, people are rapidly moving towards low-cost electric cars. Indian auto companies are getting the biggest benefit from this. Due to excellent exports, sales of Maruti, Mahindra and Tata Motors have increased.

This car of Maruti is being sold in 47 countries

The biggest contribution to this spectacular performance has been from Maruti Suzuki’s new electric SUV e-Vitara. This car stood third among the most exported cars from India in the last quarter. The company shipped 15,210 e-Vitara cars to 47 countries in just three months. The largest market among these was Britain (UK), while South Africa was at second place. Maruti Suzuki has recently launched its e-Vitara in 20 new countries, especially the markets of Europe. According to the company, due to the quality and modern technology of cars made in India, they are in good demand even in developed countries like Europe and Japan. The company is preparing to launch four new electric cars in the next few years by 2030.

Tata Motors also expanded

Tata Motors is also planning to rapidly expand its electric vehicle business globally. The company has currently started EV exports to some countries in South Asia and is now preparing to enter many new markets in Asia, Africa, Europe and the Pacific region. Tata Motors has announced to invest up to Rs 40,000 crore in the next five years. This investment will be used to increase production capacity and develop new electric models. The company wants to increase its annual production capacity from 9 lakh to 13 lakh vehicles by 2031. Also, the company is working on a plan to increase the number of its electric models from 6 to 10.

Mahindra is preparing new models

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is also preparing such models of its BE 6 and XEV 9e electric SUVs, which will be suitable for right-hand drive countries like Britain. The company says that first the business will be expanded in such countries and then gradually it will be expanded to other countries of Europe also. Overall, Indian companies no longer want to be limited to just the domestic market. On the basis of better quality, modern technology and affordable prices, electric cars made in India are now making a strong mark in many big markets of the world.
