This is a religious journey, in which lakhs of Kanwariyas wearing saffron clothes walk on foot towards the banks of Haridwar, Rishikesh, Gomukh and other holy rivers to fill the water of Ganga. Devotees carry water in Kavad on their shoulders from hundreds of kilometers and perform Jalabhishek of Mahadev in Shiva temples with the cheers of Bam Bole. This year, Kanwar Yatra will also start on 30th July i.e. with the beginning of Sawan. Let us know when this journey will end.?

Sawan Shivratri is the most important day of Kanwar Yatra.

From July 30, devotees of Lord Shiva will start filling Ganga water from Haridwar and other holy places. This holy journey will end on 11th July. On this day, the festival of Shivratri of Sawan month will be celebrated. Sawan Shivratri is considered to be the most important day of Kanwar Yatra. Kanwariyas who bring water from Haridwar, Rishikesh and other places perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva on this day.

The journey will end on Sawan Shivratri only

This year, Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva will be done on 1st August. On this day, with Jalabhishek, the Kanwar Yatra of the year 2026 will end and the devotees of Lord Shiva will complete their fast. This year mainly the Kawand Yatra will last for a total of 13 days.

Ravana had performed Jalabhishek of Mahadev

There is a mythological belief that in the month of Sawan, Lord Shiva took the poison released from the churning of the ocean in his throat to protect the world. Then his throat turned blue and his body temperature also increased. Then Ravana, a great devotee of Gods and Mahadev, anointed him with Ganga water to cool down the body temperature of Lord Shiva and to calm the effect of poison.

It is believed that from that time, in the holy month of Saavan, the practice of performing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva with Ganga water and carrying out Kanwar Yatra started.
