
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) interrogated TV host Shefali Bagga at Raipur zonal office as part of the investigation into the Mahadev online betting app case. The investigating agency claims that Shefali Bagga’s name has come up in this case and information is being taken from her on many important points.
ED According to, Shefali Bagga is considered to be a close associate of Khanjan Jagdish Kumar Thakkar. Investigation has revealed that Khanjan Thakkar is associated with the operation and promotion of online betting apps in India.
The agency also alleges that he is the main operator of the hawala network related to Mahadev Online Book and handles the financial transactions related to it.
ED got digital evidence
During the investigation, ED has found such digital evidence and promotional material in which Shefali Bagga is allegedly seen promoting the betting app. The agency claims that she was not only promoting the app, but also gave betting tips to the players.
According to the ED, Shefali Bagga also runs a Telegram channel, where promotional posts and tips related to illegal online betting were allegedly shared.
ED is investigating illegal betting
At present, the ED is taking the investigation forward in the case and is trying to find out which people have played what role in the promotion and financial activities of the illegal online betting network. Overall, ED has attached, seized and frozen assets worth approximately Rs 3,800 crore related to this case.
According to the ED, the betting syndicate operates through a franchise-based panel network managed from abroad, which generates criminal income of more than Rs 450 crore every month from illegal betting activities.
The ED said the proceeds of these illegal activities were laundered through a network of shell entities through a multi-layered structure of cash-for-accommodation entries and other layered transactions to make the tainted funds appear untainted.
