If your phone’s storage gets filled again and again and the reason for this is the photos and videos of WhatsApp, then now you can get rid of this problem. Due to the default setting of WhatsApp, media files received in chats and groups are automatically saved in the phone’s gallery. Due to this, the storage fills up quickly and the gallery also looks scattered. This auto save feature can be turned off by changing some simple settings.
Default setting of WhatsApp becomes the cause of trouble
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps in the world. Due to its default setting, photos, videos and other media files received in chats and groups are automatically saved in the phone’s gallery. Over time, these files fill up the phone’s storage and it becomes difficult to find the required photos in the gallery. Additionally, having all the media visible in the gallery may also raise privacy concerns. The good thing is that such a setting already exists in WhatsApp, through which this auto save feature can be turned off.
Change this setting by going to Storage and Data
To turn off this feature, first open WhatsApp in your smartphone. After this, go to Settings by tapping on the three dots on the top right. Open the Storage and Data section here. The option of media auto download is available in this section. Here settings related to download of photos, videos, audio and documents are available. You can choose Wi-Fi, mobile data or other options as per your need. If you do not want to download unwanted media files, turn off the respective download options.
Keep your gallery clean by turning off media visibility.
If you don’t want photos and videos from a particular chat or group to appear in your phone’s gallery, open that chat or group. After this, tap on the name of the contact or group above and turn off the media visibility option. After doing this, new media files coming from that chat will not be visible in the gallery. This feature can be implemented separately for each chat and group. The same process can be repeated for chats or groups whose media files you do not want to keep in the gallery.
Be sure to check the gallery once after changing the settings.
After making all the necessary changes, open your phone’s gallery and check it once. Now new photos and videos coming on WhatsApp will not be automatically saved or visible in the gallery. With this, the phone’s storage will be better organized and you will get rid of unnecessary media files. Also, privacy regarding your personal photos and videos will also remain better than before.
