An Indian sailor died in an attack on a commercial ship in the Black Sea. The Government of India has expressed strong displeasure over this incident. Government has clearly stated that targeting commercial ships and civilians working on them cannot be tolerated at any cost. The government has demanded safety of the sailors.
This incident happened on July 18. It is being told that a commercial ship was attacked while passing through the Black Sea in which an Indian sailor died. When the cow attacked the ship, the ship was in Russian waters. The attack occurred when MV OMORFI was proceeding in the Black Sea.
There were a total of 10 crew members on board the ship
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday that on July 18, 2026, the commercial ship MV OMORFI was passing through the Black Sea when it was attacked. According to MEA, at that time the ship was in Russian territorial waters. The ministry said that a total of 10 crew members were on board the ship, which included three Indian citizens. MEA said that one Indian sailor lost his life in the attack, while the remaining two Indians are safe.

India condemned the attack
MEA condemned the attack and described the incident as a matter of grave concern. MEA said that the Indian Mission in Russia has contacted the concerned authorities and is making every possible effort to help the family of the deceased. The MEA condemned the attack and called on all parties to adhere to international obligations to ensure the safety of maritime navigation and the unhindered flow of global trade.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal issued a statement saying, ‘India unequivocally condemns such attacks targeting commercial shipping and endangering the lives of innocent civilian crew members. It is a matter of grave concern that freedom of navigation and international trade is facing increasing threats.
Earlier 4 Indians had died
This attack on MV OMORFI happened a few days after Russia’s attack on MV Golden Leo, in which four Indians were killed. On July 19, a similar attack took place on a cargo ship named MV Golden Leo. The ship was targeted shortly after leaving the port of Odessa, Ukraine. There were 17 crew members on that ship, which included five Indian citizens. Four Indians were killed in this attack, while one was seriously injured. According to reports, this ship was a Guinea-Bissau flagged merchant ship and mostly Indians and Syrians were working in it.
