
The Turban Traveler Story: Amarjeet Singh Chawla can understand how amazing it is if the dream seen at the age of 19 remains alive in the heart even after 40 years. 65-year-old businessman Amarjeet Singh Chawla, popularly known as ‘The Turban Traveller’, has decided to explore the world with his car. Till now he has visited 87 countries by car and is now preparing to travel to 113 more countries. From August 28, he is going to go on another long road trip of 70 days.
Delhi resident Amarjeet Singh Chawla reached Jabalpur under his ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ campaign, where he participated in a program. During this, he shared the inspiration of his journey of more than 45 years, his experiences so far and his future plans. The flags of 87 countries on his SUV testify to the fact that he has covered a large part of the world with his car.
The desire for road trip started from Connaught Place in 1979
Amarjeet Chawla told that after meeting a foreign woman backpacker in Connaught Place (Delhi) in 1979 and listening to the stories of other foreign travelers, he had dreamed of traveling the whole world on a motorcycle with his friend Kamal Jain. At that time he was only 19 years old and due to family reasons he was not given permission. After this, he kept this dream alive within himself for almost four decades.
First drive from Delhi to London in 2018, target of 200 countries
In the year 2018, he got an opportunity and started his first international road trip from Delhi to London. After this his journey continued to progress. By the year 2026, he has completed his journey to 87 countries of the world in his car. Now his ultimate goal is to reach 200 countries of the world by road.
Traveling four and a half lakh kilometers and choosing a new SUV
Talking about his vehicles, he told that he has two SUVs. The first was a 2013 model car, with which he traveled to most countries. However, due to the ban on entry of vehicles older than 15 years in many countries, he bought a new SUV of 2023 model. Till now his car has traveled approximately four and a half lakh kilometres.
“The feelings of the whole world are the same” – the biggest lesson learned from the journey
Amarjeet Singh says that these long journeys taught him the biggest lesson that people all over the world are similar at the level of emotions. Language, food, clothing and culture may be different, but human feelings are the same everywhere. An Indian feels the same pain when someone in the family falls ill as does a resident of America, Africa or Europe.
Will take water from Indian rivers to London, preparing for world tour on EV in 2027
He is now traveling with the message of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the whole world is one family). For this purpose, he will take water from various rivers of India to London and organize a special program there, so that the message of Indian culture and global brotherhood can be spread.
On August 28, he will set out on a new 70-day road trip from India to London. During this period, his convoy will reach London after crossing a total of 25 countries via Nepal, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China and many countries of Europe. After this, in February-March of 2027, he is also planning to travel the whole world in an electric vehicle (EV).
Message to the youth: “Understand your country before going abroad”
Giving a message to the youth, he said that if you get a chance in life, you should definitely travel by road. However, before going abroad it is important to know and understand your country. There are countless such places in India, from the North-East to the Himalayas, Rajasthan, Central India and South India, which can change the way you look at life.
Appreciation of road infrastructure and development of the country
Discussing the development of the country, he praised the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described the contribution of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in the field of road infrastructure as noteworthy. He said that today India’s modern roads are at par with many developed countries of the world.
Vishal Pandey will accompany him on London trip, reality show announced
Vishal Kumar Pandey, present in the program, said that travel is not just a medium for travelling, but also the biggest opportunity for learning. He told that he will also participate with Amarjeet Singh in the upcoming London trip. Apart from this, she also informed about starting a reality show called ‘The Glamor Runway’ with the aim of promoting fashion and tourism.
