Danger to the heart! Do not make these mistakes even by mistake in breakfast, they become the reason for high cholesterol.

July 28, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Bad cholesterol is called low density lipoprotein (LDL). If the amount of cholesterol increases excessively then it starts accumulating in crystal form inside the arteries. Due to this plaque the arteries start getting blocked. Medically, this condition is called atherosclerosis. In such a situation, our blood flow starts deteriorating and the condition even leads to heart attack. Experts say that the main reasons for high cholesterol are wrong eating habits, fried foods and trans fats. Cholesterol also increases due to not being physically active, obesity, smoking and many other reasons.

Do you know that what you eat for breakfast can also cause bad cholesterol problems. Let us tell you through experts which breakfast mistakes make us victims of bad cholesterol.

What do experts say

Dr. Amar Singhal (Director Cardiology Shri Balaji Action Medical Institute Delhi) says that high cholesterol is not only affected by medicines but also by our daily eating habits to a great extent. If I talk from a cardiology perspective, frequent consumption of foods rich in saturated fat, trans fat and refined carbohydrates like fried snacks, parathas with excess butter or ghee, bakery products, processed meat and sweet cereals in breakfast can increase bad cholesterol (LDL) in the body.

Over time this can accelerate the process of atherosclerosis, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Tea-biscuit breakfast

Experts say that skipping breakfast or relying only on tea and biscuits is also not a good habit. This causes fluctuations in blood sugar, subsequently increases the tendency to overeat and along with weight gain, the lipid profile can also be negatively affected. For heart health, breakfast should include soluble fiber, good quality protein and unsaturated fat.

Maintain this type of diet

Oats, porridge, sprouted grains, eggs, curd, seasonal fruits, seeds and dry fruits in limited quantities are better options. If a person has high cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of heart disease, he or she should make regular lipid profile checks, a balanced diet and physical activity a part of their daily routine. Right breakfast can play an important role in protecting against heart diseases.
