Commonwealth Games 2026, Medal Tally: Medals are increasing but India is not ranking in the medal table, what is the reason?

July 29, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Commonwealth Games 2026 Medals Tally List: India won 2 more medals on the sixth day of Commonwealth Games 2026. India won silver twice in Glasgow Sports Complex. India won one silver medal in weightlifting and the second silver came after Gulveer Singh’s historic success in athletics. After winning these two silver medals, India’s medal count increased from 10 to 12, but on the contrary, it suffered a loss in terms of position in the medal table. There was no increase in India’s position towards medal.

India’s medals are increasing but there is no place in the medal table

After the sixth day of play, India’s total medal count was 12, which included 2 gold, 7 silver and 3 bronze. But, despite having 12 medals, India dropped one place in the medal table after the sixth day of play. Her position, which was number 8 with only 10 medals on the 5th day, became number 9 with 12 medals on the sixth day.

Reason for not increasing ranking in medal tally

The biggest reason for India’s position not increasing in the medal table is its failure to win maximum gold medals. This is the reason why his position is not rising even though the number of medals is increasing, because the number of silver and bronze in his bag is more than gold.

Understand the ‘golden’ difference in the medal table

By the 5th day of play, New Zealand was at 10th position in the medal table and India was at 8th position. But the situation changed after the sixth day of play. New Zealand won 2 more gold medals on the sixth day, which benefited its position in the medal table. It jumped 2 places to reach 8th position, where India was earlier. This is because its gold medals were more than India’s.

Similarly, in the medal tally, both Nigeria and India have 12 medals each so far. But with the same 12 medals, Nigeria is at 5th position and India is at 9th position. This difference is also due to the gold medal. Nigeria has won 4 more gold than India.
