July 14, 2026 by Uma Shankar

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said the court’s conviction of Tahir Hussain in the Delhi riots case is an important step towards justice for the victims’ families who lost their loved ones in the violence and suffered immense pain. The party leadership must answer for the Aam Aadmi Party’s political ties and patronage to a person found guilty of inciting riots, murder and widespread violence in Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday that the court’s conviction of Tahir Hussain in the Delhi riots case is an important step towards justice for the families who lost their loved ones in this violence and suffered deep grief. He said that the party leadership should answer to the people of Delhi on the political relations of the Aam Aadmi Party with the person convicted in the case of inciting riots, murder and spreading violence and the alleged protection given to him.

Rekha Gupta asked for answers

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta asked top Aam Aadmi Party leaders Arvind Kejriwal, Sanjay Singh and Manish Sisodia as to when the people of Delhi will get answers on this entire episode. He said that during the Delhi riots, there was an atmosphere of violence, stone pelting and anarchy in the capital, in which many people lost their lives and a large number of families were affected. According to him, it is important to fix accountability of those responsible for such incidents, so that such violence does not happen again in future.

AAP’s statement on Tahir

He said that no one is above the law and the court’s decision strengthens people’s faith in the justice system. Meanwhile, on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party, AAP said that Tahir Hussain had been expelled from the party long ago and he has no connection with the party. This matter has now become a matter of legal as well as political debate. Political rhetoric on this issue is likely to intensify in the coming days, while hearing of other cases related to this is also going on in the court.
