If you share personal information on AI chatbot, then this news is for you. Some private chats of Anthropic’s Claude AI recently started appearing in Google search. These included crypto wallet keys, personal information and other sensitive details. The company says that this problem was not due to its system, but due to the way users shared chats. Let us know the whole matter.
Chats reached Google due to share link
According to the report, there is a share feature in the cloud, through which users can create a link to their conversation and share it with other people. Some users on Reddit noticed that many of Claude’s shared chats and cloud artifacts were visible when they searched specific words on Google. After this, concerns regarding privacy increased. Some sensitive information also appeared in these chats.
What did Anthropic say?
Anthropic said that the company itself had not made any chat searchable on Google. According to the company, users are given the option to share their cloud chats publicly and it does not provide any directory or sitemap of the chats to search engines. However, if a user creates a share link, that link may get archived through a third party service and may later appear in search engines. The company has now fixed this problem and removed such links from Google search. However, people who already have the link can still open it.
Why has concern increased regarding privacy?
According to the report, experts say that people often write things related to work, health, legal matters or personal life in AI chatbots. In such a situation, if the shared link becomes public, sensitive information can also be revealed. It was also told in the report that earlier a similar case related to about 1 lakh chats of ChatGPT and Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot has come to light. Experts believe that it still remains a big challenge for AI companies to completely eliminate the privacy risks associated with shared chat links.
